Biography

Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier is a French poker player and GGPoker Ambassador. His is also a Triple Crown winner, having won a World Series of Poker bracelet, as well as World Poker Tour and European Poker Tour titles.

He is also a former PokerStars Team Pro, having represented the site from 2006-2018, and a former partypoker pro having represented the site from 2018-2020.

Biography

Grospellier was born in Melun, France. Before he started playing poker, he was a world-famous StarCraft player under the name 'ElkY'. In 2001 moved to South Korea to pursuit his passion for StarCraft. He took part in a number of competitions beating thousands of his opponents and collecting top place finishes. Grospellier says that his gaming experience is one of the main reasons why he's so successful at the poker tables.

He started playing poker professionally in 2005. Since then, Grospellier has countless cashes in the world's biggest poker tournaments and more than $14 million in live tournament cashes. At the online felt, he is became the first player to reach PokerStars Supernova and Supernova Elite statuses. First he earned 100,000 player points in just two weeks and then collected another 1,000,000 points in four and a half months.

Grospellier at the WSOP

Grospellier first played in the World Series of Poker in 200 and added three more money finishes to his resume in the summer of 2007. One of the cashes was also marked by making the final table in the $2,500 No-Limit Hold'em event. He took home a total of $77,000 in winnings that year.

In 2011, Grospellier won his first WSOP bracelet in the $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship for more than $330,000. He also finished 3rd in the $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em / Six Handed Championship for over $440,000, and then final tabled the WSOP Europe 3,000 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout tournament for almost 50,000.

Having picked up a seven-figure cash at the 2017 World Series of Poker, finishing second in the $111,111 High Roller for One Drop, Grospellier won his second bracelet in 2019 at the WSOP Europe.

Grospellier on the World Poker Tour

Grospellier won his WPT title in 2008. He won the Festa Al Lago Classic $15,000 Championship for a $1.4 million cash prize. A few months later ElkY came close to his second WPT trophy at the Five Star World Poker Classic $25,000 Championship event. He finished the tournament in third place collecting more than $770,000 in prize money.

Grospellier on the European Poker Tour

Grospellier first entered the European Poker Tour stage in 2006 at the EPT Baden and placed 16th in the Main Event. Just a year later, in 2007 he came close to his first EPT win. ElkY finished second in the EPT Copenhagen Main Event to winner Magnus Petersson and collected $400,000 for his accomplishment. Although Grospellier has a total of five first-place EPT finishes, four of them came in side events, while his only Main Event title was obtained in 2008 at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $7,800 Main Event. ElkY then took home $2 million in prize money.

Other Poker Achievements

Aside from his Triple Crown, Grospellier has a number of other poker trophies in his collection. In 2009 he won the 10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Team Event at the Belgium Open Poker Championships in Namur for 11,250. Then in October, 2010 Grospellier took down the 1,500 No-Limit Hold'em event at the Barriere Poker Tour in Lille, France for a 40,000 payday. In December of the same year he won the 3,000 Main Event at the Trophees Haussmann in Paris taking home 110,800.

WPT Global Poker Games

1. What is a flight tournament?

A flight tournament has multiple qualifiers (or Day 1s), and the top X% (usually 10-20%) of each flight advance to the final day. When a flight reaches that percentage, it ends automatically, and the remaining players move to the final day (chips are carried over). Flights may also end based on level, time, or remaining players. Some flights may not award prizes, while others do. After all flights end, the final day starts as scheduled. You must buy in for each flight; direct entry to the final day is not allowed. You can enter multiple flights in the same tournament, but only your largest chip stack carries over if you qualify more than once.

2. What is a satellite tournament?

A satellite tournament is a tournament where you can win entry to a major tournament for a small buy-in. The entry fee is usually 10-20% of the major tournament. Multiple entries may be awarded depending on the number of participants. Example: In an $11 ($10+$1) satellite, one ticket to a $110 ($100+$10) tournament is awarded for every 11 players. Some satellites award generic tickets that can be used for any tournament with the same buy-in, not just a specific tournament.

3. What is a guaranteed tournament?

A guaranteed tournament is a tournament where a certain prize pool is guaranteed regardless of the number of players. If there are more players, the prize pool increases, but it will not fall below the guaranteed minimum. Example: In a $55 ($50+$5) tournament with a $2,000 guarantee, even with 22 players, $2,000 is paid out. With 63 players, $3,150 (63×$50) is paid out.

4. How do I use tournament tickets in my backpack?

To use a ticket, select a tournament with the same value as your ticket from the 'Tournaments' tab in the lobby and register.

5. Which hands are eligible for the cash game jackpot?
